About Us

For almost fifteen years, The Gentleman Soldier, a gallery based in Noblesville, Indiana, has been providing private collectors, museums and interior designers with a wide array of investment quality antiques, militaria, fine arts, rare books and manuscripts. Items from the gallery have made their way into fine homes, public collections and exhibitions from Paris to New York, Washington, D.C. to Tokyo. In the course of the last decade and a half, our staff has provided historical research, professional appraisals and technical expertise to private collectors, architects, designers and major film studios. Framed pieces from the gallery have graced the walls of offices in the White House and galleries at West Point. The Gentleman Soldier has provided design, decorative elements and objects d'art for Decorator Show Houses from Indianapolis to Atlanta.

The Gentleman Soldier is owned and operated by Duane Arnold, PhD. Educated in America and Europe, Arnold holds seven degrees and graduate diplomas, including an earned doctorate from the University of Durham, England. Prior to opening the gallery, Arnold was involved in academic and institutional life both in the United States and overseas. Active in historical research he has written several books and contributed numerous articles to academic journals. Arnold has personally collected art and militaria over the space of forty years and is regarded as an expert in the field both in America and France. In addition to Dr. Arnold, a staff is available to assist clients with purchases and interior design related to the display of collections and individual artifacts. A wider group of contracted specialists provide the gallery's clients with expertise in museum quality conservation services.

Facilitated by a 4,000 volume reference library onsite, research, at the highest level possible, is undertaken on each item in the gallery before it is displayed or offered to a client. The research that goes with each item is considered to be an integral part of any purchase.

In every aspect of our business - whether it involves design, assisting in the formation of a collection, or engaging in research - we endeavor to serve our clients with courtesy and expertise and to imbue each transaction with our belief in "the fine art of history". In order to give every client personal attention, the gallery is open by appointment. Arrangements may be made by calling 317.776.8790.
